Finally, A Devotional for artists!
On February 23, 2019 I stood in a stadium of over 60,000 people at The Send conference in Orlando, Florida. Believers young and old from all over the world gathered to hear preachers speak on the urgency of sharing the Gospel. At one point, when we were asked to contemplate individually what God wanted us to accomplish in this world, I heard very distinctly in my heart a phrase that said, “You have been commissioned to inspire.”

As an artist, I was deeply encouraged, although, I did not (and still do not) fully understand the depth of what this phrase means. All I know is that this statement was quickly confirmed only minutes later, when I traveled dow to the nearest concession stand, looked at the back of a man’s shirt and read the words, “Commissioned to Inspire.”
Since then I have continued to create, encourage, and pursue the Lord through art and creativity and hopefully inspire those to tap into their God-given gifts. When I began to feel led to write this devotional, it was a no brainer that I would call this book “Be Inspired.” This title is not only a declaration that I am actively pursuing what God has called me to pursue but- a hope that those who read this book will find joy and inspiration to create with Lord in a fresh new way.
In this 21-week devotional, I will share personal encounters that I have had with the Lord that have been centered around creativity. I will also share practical tips for challenges many artists face alongside of metaphorical stories that are centered around creative professions. Each chapter will have a scripture to meditate on, a message to read, an “Art Prompt” for you to accomplish and few of reflection questions to consider.
As you read, you might notice fairly quickly that this devotional does not have a guided prayer for each week. While I believe prayers in devotional books are helpful, I want to encourage you to not get caught up in the carefully articulated wording of written prayers. Instead, if you desire to pray after reading each section (which I hope you still do!) speak to the Lord as you would a friend from the sincerity of your heart trusting that God hears and delights in your unique fellowship with Him.
So without further ado, let’s begin this faith filled artistic journey together. And I hope along the way that you will be truly inspired!
